The Exped Synmat 7 Pump are a new style of sleeping mat, warmer and more packable than a foam filled self inflating mat, they contain synthetic insulation.
The Synmat 7 Pumps are 7cm thick when inflated and feature an integrated pump. The Synmat 7 is an ideal sleeping mat for camping in cold condtions. The Synthetic insulation is bonded to the upper and lower surfaces of the Synmat so that as it inflates the insulation opens out creating a ‘lofting’ effect. Tests have shown that Synmats are nearly twice as warm as a self inflating mat of the same weight. The Synmats also pack up smaller than other mats as you only have to compress the insulation and not the foam. Tests have demonstrated that regular sleeping mats lose 3 times more heat to cold ground than to the air; therefore thicker mats such as the Exped Synmat 7 Pump will keep you warmer than having a more insulated sleeping bag.
