914 Outdoor can be found next to the main A87 route running from Invergarry and Invermoriston through to the world famous Isle of Skye.  But as you enter Lochalsh, you'll soon realise the stunning beauty to behold matches anything the rest of Scotland and indeed Europe has to offer. Be in no doubt, 914 is surrounded by some of the most magnificent scenery found anywhere in the U.K. and with the area reading like a who's who of famous and magical places, there's little wonder that outdoor enthusiasts flock to this area from all over the world. You will also be amazed at the diverse wildlife to be readily seen in the area, including wild deer, pine martin, buzzard, porpoise, the elusive otter and even the magnificent golden eagle.

Local places of interest

Let us enlighten you.  From our door, you will find:

Eilean Donan Castle
Eilean Donan Castle
– 300 metres - As seen from 914!

Featured in the film Highlander and Entrapment, aswell as numerous TV commercials and tourism merchandise. The castle as it stands today dates mainly from the 20th century.

Rising from the ruins of it's predecessor, it was rebuilt between 1912 and 1932 by Lieutenant Colonel John Macrae-Gilstrap. Previously, Eilean Donan (island of Donan) had been a fortified site for at least 800 years.

Dornie, Lochalsh

The Five Sisters of Kintail
Five Sisters of Kintail – 7 miles

This famous and spectacular rocky ridge is well worth building your fitness up to. Although a relatively accessible route to the reasonably fit walker, some tricky ascent and decent sections demand respect and care should be taken when assessing the weather and the amount of daylight hours needed. Navigational skills are always recommended and the inexperienced should seek the assistance of a guide. Allow 8-10 hours if you have transport at either end.  To complete a 'round', allow 12-14 hours.

Blaven & The Cuillin Ridge
The Cuillin Ridge -
35 miles

Often called the Scottish Alps, the Cuillins were once the training ground for budding Himalayan mountaineers and the main ridge is widely regarded as the best mountaineering route in Britain. But be warned, this is not for the faint-hearted and it is strongly advisable to employ the services of a local guide, though you will still need stamina, focus and a wealth of navigational skills before considering tackling this one.  Enjoy!!

The South Glen Shiel Ridge - (part of)
South Glen Shiel Ridge
– 9 miles

A must for munro-baggers.  This is one spectacular switchback ridge, incorporating 7 Munros!! See our Gallery for more pictures of this ridge.

Plockton
The beautiful village of Plockton - 12 miles. With an outlook such as this, there's little wonder it was the setting for TV drama 'Hamish Macbeth' and more recently, the documentary 'Dobsons of Duncraig'.
